Feel free to sing!

Why sing?

Every man, woman and child can sing – but why would they want to? Have you ever expressed a desire to sing but have been too inhibited to try? So, now is the time to try it! If you’ve already discovered a love of singing, you can still benefit by checking this list of benefits.

Singing – the benefits:

  • Your health will improve through proper breathing, as more oxygen pumps around your system, increasing your heart rate and expanding your chest. Your heart is a muscle, needing exercise, just like the rest of your body.
  • Your speaking voice will improve, showing greater control, better articulation, open vowel sounds and a more tuneful delivery. There will be ‘music’ in your speech.
  • You can let go of stress and emotional baggage through the sheer joy of singing.
  • You will improve your posture. This will happen quite naturally, as you expand your ribcage to breathe in and, control your abdominal muscles, as you breathe out.
  • You will feel increasingly confident, as you build inner energy and become vocally strong.
  • You will experience a general feeling of well being through this higher level of expression.

The joy of singing
Just listen to the joyful energy expressed through beautiful voices like the late Pavarotti or Keri Te Konawa - to say nothing of the eternally youthful Knights of Rock, Cliff Richards and Elton John. What keeps these last two so young? It must be singing!

Try it
You can join people of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds, who derive great pleasure from singing. Even if you’ve been told, at some point in your life, that you can’t sing, this is almost certainly not true. Only a very, very small percentage of people are in the category of being diagnosed, as ‘clinically tone deaf’.

When and where to sing

  • Sing when you’re happy, when you’re alone and also when you’re with friends.
  • Sing when you’re in the car, on your way to a business meeting or a social networking event.
  • Sing along with your kid, en route to a party. Enjoy experimenting with sounds.
  • Sing when you’re feeling sexy! When you sing, feel how free you feel.
  • If anyone tells you they can’t sing – show them this article!
